Got something to say?
I enjoyed President Obama’s State of the Union Speech this week. He is entertaining, and quite funny in a tongue in cheek sort of way. I sincerely believe our President when he says that he wants an end to partisanship or at least an end to it to the extent that our elected officials in Washington can finally GET SOMETHING done. Listening toward the end of his speech, I felt uncomfortable for all in attendance that his words turned into an admonishment of their behavior. I was compelled to read the text of his speech today, to remind me of his statements. When I revisited the speech, I couldn’t help to imagine him delivering this speech to a group of teenagers – too consumed in their own images to act appropriately and responsibly. The sad thing is these aren’t teenagers who we elected to represent us. These are experienced professionals who should know better.
I applause President Obama for his candor, and for expressing his feelings. I hope that all of our elected officials stop and think before they act this year. I don’t care that it is an election year. I don’t want to be pummeled on the airwaves with negative campaigning. I want to see our elected officials working for me, for my family, for my community, for my country. I don’t want to watch a blame game on Sunday morning news shows. I want to see the people I elected to office take account ability to getting the job done, taking risks with the media, and doing the best for our country.
